Five Point Someone What not to do at IIT – is the debut novel by Indian author Chetan Bhagat, first published in 2004. The book is a humorous, dark, and relatable fictional story about three friends at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) who struggle with academic pressure, love, and life within a rigid educational system. The story, primarily narrated in the first person by Hari Kumar, follows the experiences of three mechanical engineering students – Hari, Ryan, and Alok – at IIT Delhi. Despite securing admission to one of India’s premier institutes, they quickly find themselves at the bottom of their class with five-point-something GPAs out of ten, failing to cope with the immense academic rigor, uninspiring teaching methods, and constant pressure to excel.
