Cry, The Peacock

Cry, The Peacock – is a psychological novel that explores the inner turmoil and eventual insanity of its protagonist, Maya, a young woman from a wealthy, over-protective family. The story unfolds around her unhappy marriage to Gautama, an older, rational, and emotionally detached lawyer who fails to understand her intense emotional needs and sensitive nature.  The central conflict is driven by a childhood prophecy from an albino astrologer, who predicted that one of the couple would die in the fourth year of their marriage. This prediction, coupled with the death of her pet dog Toto, triggers a growing obsession with death and a deep sense of loneliness and anxiety in Maya. Her existential angst is heightened by her childlessness and lack of purpose in life, which her husband dismisses with his philosophical detachment.
