David Copperfield

David Copperfield – The novel, a bildungsroman (coming-of-age story), follows the life of David Copperfield as he navigates personal struggles, social challenges, and triumphs in Victorian England.  David is born in Blunderstone, Suffolk, after his father’s death. He enjoys a happy early childhood with his kind, naive mother, Clara, and their loyal housekeeper, Peggotty. His life changes dramatically when his mother marries the stern and cruel Mr. Murdstone and his equally severe sister, Jane. After David bites Mr. Murdstone during a beating, he is sent away to a harsh boarding school, Salem House, run by the sadistic Mr. Creakle.
