The Common Reader

The Common Reader – The Common Reader is a collection of essays published in two series (1925 and 1932) where Woolf discusses literature and the act of reading from the perspective of an “unprofessional” or common reader—someone who reads for pleasure and general understanding rather than academic criticism. Woolf championed the idea that a love for reading is more important than specialized scholarly knowledge. The common reader, through their direct engagement with texts, helps keep literature alive and relevant.
