Description
An Enemy of The People – Dr. Stockmann calls a town meeting to speak directly to the citizens. Instead of discussing the water, he launches a tirade against the “compact liberal majority,” arguing that the majority is often wrong and the enlightened minority is always right. Enraged, the townspeople vote to declare him an “enemy of the people”. The play ends with the Stockmann family facing total ostracism. Despite losing his job, being evicted, and seeing his daughter Petra fired from her teaching role, the Doctor refuses to leave town. He declares that “the strongest man in the world is he who stands most alone” and resolves to start a school for street urchins to teach them to think for themselves.
