The Vicar of Wakefield

The Vicar of Wakefield  – Their peaceful life is shattered when the Vicar loses his entire fortune to a dishonest merchant. This forces the family to move to a humbler parish on the estate of the rakish Squire Thornhill. Misfortunes mount rapidly—Olivia is seduced and abducted by the Squire, the family home burns down, and the Vicar is eventually thrown into a debtor’s prison for failing to pay rent to the vengeful Squire. Even in prison, however, the Vicar remains steadfast in his faith and attempts to reform his fellow inmates.
