Joseph Andrews

Joseph Andrews – is the first full-length novel by Henry Fielding. It is a cornerstone of English literature, famously defined by its author as a “comic epic poem in prose”. Joseph Andrews, a virtuous footman and the supposed brother of Richardson’s Pamela, is dismissed by Lady Booby after he rejects her sexual advances to maintain his pre-marital chastity. After his dismissal, Joseph travels from London to the country to reunite with his beloved, Fanny Goodwill. He is accompanied by the eccentric and absent-minded Parson Abraham Adams, considered one of the greatest comic figures in literature.
