The English Teacher

The English Teacher  – The novel follows the life of Krishna, an English teacher at the Albert Mission College in the fictional town of Malgudi. Initially, Krishna is unhappy with the mechanical nature of his job, finding little satisfaction in teaching English literature to unenthusiastic students. His life gains joy when his wife, Susila, and their young daughter, Leela, move in with him. However, their domestic bliss is short-lived as Susila contracts typhoid after visiting a filthy house they considered buying and tragically dies, leaving Krishna devastated.
