Silas Marner

Silas Marner  – The novel tells the story of Silas Marner, a linen weaver who is ostracized from his original religious community, Lantern Yard, after his supposed best friend, William Dane, frames him for theft. Silas’s gold is stolen by Dunstan Cass, the dissolute younger son of the local squire, who disappears afterward. One snowy New Year’s Eve, a young, opium-addicted woman named Molly Farren, Godfrey Cass’s secret wife, dies in the snow near Silas’s cottage. Her toddler daughter, guided by the light from Silas’s home, wanders in and falls asleep on the hearth.
