The Ambassadors

The Ambassadors  – Lambert Strether, a middle-aged, somewhat repressed American, is sent to Paris by his wealthy fiancée, Mrs. Newsome. His task is to retrieve her son, Chad Newsome, who is believed to be wasting his life in a scandalous affair with a “wicked” Frenchwoman. Upon arriving, Strether is shocked to find that Chad has not been corrupted but has instead become a refined, sophisticated gentleman. Strether meets the woman in question, Madame de Vionnet, and is captivated by her elegance and grace.
