David Copperfield

David Copperfield – is a classic novel by Charles Dickens, published in 1850, that tells the semi-autobiographical story of its protagonist’s life from childhood to maturity. Dickens himself called it his “favourite child”. The novel, a classic Bildungsroman (coming-of-age story), is narrated in the first person by David Copperfield. The story traces his journey through numerous hardships, starting with a difficult childhood after his loving mother remarries the cruel Mr. Murdstone. After his mother’s death, David is forced to work in a factory but eventually runs away to his eccentric and kind-hearted great-aunt, Betsey Trotwood, who becomes his guardian.
