A Fine Balance

A Fine Balance – which tells the story of four strangers brought together during India’s State of Emergency in the mid-1970s. Shakti Batra is an author who has written study guides and critical analyses of Mistry’s work, including A Fine Balance.

Set in an unnamed Indian city during the political turmoil of the 1975 “State of Internal Emergency,” the novel follows the intersecting lives of four characters from diverse backgrounds who form an unexpected, makeshift family in a small apartment.
