Emma

Emma – is a novel by Jane Austen, published in 1815, about a young, wealthy, and self-assured woman named Emma Woodhouse who fancies herself a matchmaker but whose misplaced confidence leads to comedic misunderstandings and self-discovery. The novel is a comedy of manners that critiques the social structure of Regency England. The story is set in the fictional village of Highbury and follows the life of Emma Woodhouse, who lives a privileged existence with her doting, hypochondriac father. Having successfully matched her former governess, Miss Taylor (now Mrs. Weston), Emma decides to take on a new protégé, the pretty but unsophisticated Harriet Smith.
