Gone with the Wind – In 1861, Scarlett O’Hara, the headstrong daughter of a wealthy Georgia plantation owner, is infatuated with Ashley Wilkes. When Ashley announces his engagement to his gentle cousin Melanie Hamilton, a spurned Scarlett hastily marries Melanie’s brother, Charles, out of spite. Scarlett returns to her family plantation, Tara, to find her mother dead, her father insane, and the land pillaged. Vowing “never to be hungry again,” she takes charge of the plantation and later marries Frank Kennedy—her sister’s fiancé—solely for his money to pay Tara’s exorbitant taxes.
