Major Barbara

Major Barbara – Barbara, an idealistic Major in the Salvation Army, is appalled by her father’s “blood money”. They make a deal: Undershaft will visit Barbara’s shelter, and she will visit his arms factory, each attempting to “convert” the other to their worldview. Barbara works to save souls, including the violent Bill Walker. Undershaft watches and argues that the Salvation Army is merely a tool of the rich to keep the poor submissive. Barbara decides to marry Cusins and continue her work at the factory. She concludes that saving the souls of people who have food and dignity is more meaningful than “bribing” the starving with bread for their conversion.
