Paradise Lost Book 2

Paradise Lost Book 2 – Satan journeys to the nine gates of Hell, guarded by two figures: Sin (Satan’s daughter, who sprang from his head when he first conceived of rebellion) and Death (their offspring, who in turn raped Sin and produced the hellhounds that torment her). The devils unanimously agree to Beelzebub’s plan. A long silence follows when a volunteer is requested for the dangerous journey through Chaos. Satan then grandiosely offers to go alone, a twisted parody of Christ’s later sacrifice for humanity.
