Sense and Sensibility

Sense and Sensibility  – the Dashwood sisters, Elinor (sense) and Marianne (sensibility), as they navigate love, heartbreak, and societal constraints after their father’s death leaves them impoverished and forced to move to a modest cottage, contrasting Elinor’s restrained reason with Marianne’s passionate emotionality as both find eventual happiness through trials with suitors like Willoughby, Edward Ferrars, and Colonel Brandon.  After their father dies, his estate, Norland Park, goes to his son from a previous marriage, leaving his widow and three daughters (Elinor, Marianne, Margaret) with little money. A relative, Sir John Middleton, offers them a cottage at Barton Park.
