The Financial Expert

The Financial Expert – is a 1952 novel by acclaimed Indian author R.K. Narayan that tells the story of the rise and fall of Margayya, a man obsessed with acquiring wealth in the fictional South Indian town of Malgudi. The novel follows the life of Margayya, whose adopted name means “one who shows the way”. His career begins humbly under a banyan tree, where he acts as a middleman, helping illiterate villagers navigate the complex loan application process at the nearby Central Co-operative Land Mortgage Bank.
