The Mill on The Floss

The Mill on The Floss – Maggie is an intelligent, impetuous child who deeply adores her older brother, Tom. Their father, Mr. Tulliver, is a proud miller who sends Tom to school to become a “gentleman,” despite Tom’s lack of aptitude for academics. Mr. Tulliver loses a series of lawsuits against his rival, Lawyer Wakem, leading to the family’s bankruptcy. Tom is forced to leave school to work and clear the family debt, while Mr. Tulliver is humiliated by being hired as a manager at his own former mill by Wakem.
