The Pearl

The Pearl – Kino, a poor Indigenous pearl diver, lives a peaceful life with his wife, Juana, and their infant son, Coyotito. After their son is stung by a scorpion and refused treatment by a racist local doctor because they have no money, Kino finds an enormous, “perfect” pearl—the “Pearl of the World”. While the pearl represents hope for his son’s education and his family’s future, it quickly attracts the greed and envy of the townspeople. Kino is stalked, attacked, and cheated by pearl dealers who try to undervalue his find.
